Rocky Mountain Hopes

March 18, 2011

First time walk coordinators Amanda Meier, Mindy Aucone and Amy LeMaire have taken on not just a Promise Walk this year, but also an officially sanctioned 5k walk/run in their home city of Denver.  And, they are doing it in style.

Tapping into local resident, preeclampsia survivor and author, Lauren Ward Larsen to speak at the walk was quite a coup.  Lauren recently published the book “Zuzu’s Petals” about her experiences to the brink of death and back after the birth of her daughter and a particularly harrowing case of preeclampsia.

Lauren’s story is compelling and one you’ll want to hear and read about.  Books will be on-sale at the walk and Lauren will donate 100% of her royalties on those purchased at the walk to the Foundation.

Coordinator Amanda had her own reasons for starting a walk in Denver.  She became involved with the Foundation after the delivery of her son at 31 weeks due to HELLP syndrome.  After that, she says her involvement “just followed naturally.”

The Denver Promise Walk for Preeclampsia is hoping to raise $10,000 in their inaugural year and they are already well on their way to that goal.  Should you wish to participate in the Denver Promise Walk and shoot their dollar goals “miles high”, you can go to http://www.promisewalk.org/pfpw/fundevent.asp?nnaffundid=28
