Throwback Thursday: Remembering Our Roots

February 13, 2014

In honor of Throwback Thursday, we thought we would share just a little bit of history. The “Preeclampsia Awareness Walk-a-thons” began in 2005 making this year our Tenth Annual Walk. The original Walk-a-Thons were held in 17 locations, some of which are still present as Promise Walks today, with a few hundred participants. Here are a few pictures from those inaugural walks that started the unstoppable force that is our amazing communities!

In 2010, the awareness walks were re-branded as the Promise Walk for Preeclampsia, making a specific reference to the promise our Foundation makes to families affected by preeclampsia, eclampsia, HELLP syndrome and other hypertensive disorder of pregnancy: a world where preeclampsia no longer threatens the lives of moms and babies. The tagline “Making Strides, Delivering Hope” emphasizes that we all must take steps together to make this vision a reality. We now have THOUSANDS of participants across the country in over 40 locations. Happy 10th Birthday, Promise Walk!

Thanks to all of you who are helping to make our vision a reality! Walk – Give – Learn today at www.promisewalk.org. Tell us in the comments when was YOUR first walk?
