Lauren Pappas and her husband Clement came to the Preeclampsia Foundation under the worst of circumstances – the loss of their infant son Peter Joseph. In 2016, they joined the Philadelphia/South Jersey Promise Walk for Preeclampsia and rallied all of their friends, family, co-workers and loved ones to join the Peter Joseph Pappas Team to raise local awareness and help to fund research to end preeclampsia. They are looking forward to another great season of delivering hope to other families like theirs with their full team’s support.

Here’s more about why Lauren believes so strongly in being a Promise Walk team captain.

How did your family and team first get involved with the Preeclampsia Foundation?

We lost our son Peter Joseph and we looked to the Preeclampsia Foundation as a place to donate to memorialize our son and learn about the current research related to preeclampsia.

Why is raising awareness and supporting research for preeclampsia so important to you?

It is important to us to cure preeclampsia. We are working hard to raise money for research to do just that.  We don’t want other families to go through what we went through, and it is important for us to honor our son by being involved with the Preeclampsia Foundation.

How has the Promise Walk and the Preeclampsia Foundation helped you and your family as you moved through your experience?

It has given us a chance to have Peter Joseph remembered and get many friends and family involved in our mission to cure preeclampsia. We have been able to educate others on preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome, and why it is so important to work at curing this disease so other families don’t have to experience a tragic loss.

What would you say to people who are NOT currently participating in the walk to get them involved?

This is an opportunity to connect with other families that have been touched by preeclampsia and give to a great cause.

To join the Pappas family and many others raising funds and awareness in the Philadelphia area, join the Philadephia/South Jersey Promise Walk for Preeclampsia event coming up on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 10:00 am at Challenge Grove Park in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Registration is FREE at www.promisewalk.org/Philadelphia.
